Worms World Party runs flawlessly on my system and unlike most other games I can even play it multiplayer with my 28.8 modem! My friend Nate and I play this very often over our VPN and it is highly recommended if you're looking for a game to play with your friends over the net.
Worms World Party comes with many single player options. You can take on missions and attempt some training exercises to improve your skills. While the single player missions can be fun you will likely move on to multiplayer as soon as you feel comfortable. Wormnet is availble to help you find someone to play or you can use TCP/IP connections to play a friend.
Worms pits your team of worms (up to 8 on a team) against an opposing team. Each worm has a number of hit points and each weapon does a set amount of damage. Damage can vary however as being point blank to a bazooka blast will hurt much more than if you are on the outer edges of the blast radius. Fire can damage your worms and they will jump around painfully in the flames taking damage for how long they are in it. There are also chemicals/poisons that can cause worms to take damage every round.
Worms World Party has a huge variety of weapons with which to harm your enemies. There are standard weapons that every team has available at the start of a battle. These are generally normal weapons like bazookas and handguns. The fun really begins when you find a crate with one of the many rare and superweapons inside. Banana bombs split into several smaller bombs that deal damage like dynamite. You can blow huge chunks of earth away and send your enemies (or your team members if you're not careful) into the ocean. Weapons can be even more zany than an explosive banana. Perhaps most insane is the most powerful weapon of all, the concrete donkey! A giant concrete donkey drops from the sky at a point on the terrain you select by simply clicking with the mouse. With precision you can take out half the enemy's fort with this weapon. The sounds are amusing and your enemies will hate you for it! There are dozens more weapons that vary from real-life weapons to the completely insane.
Worms World Party in multiplayer is highly configurable. I nearly always use fort mode when I play. You can set the game time, how many hp each worm has and more. Add in the 3 mods you can choose each battle and you have a crazy amount of things to try when you play. More crates can be made to appear, which makes for crazy battles with high use of superweapons. You can also adjust the damage of each weapon individually or choose the options in the mod menu such as 2x damage for all weapons, high damage cluster bombs or make the ninja rope longer so you can get around more.
WWP has a medium learning curve in my opinion, you will probably spend your first few battles jumping off cliffs trying to get around as there are 4 types of jump available to move you worms effectively. Once learned though this becomes an instinct and Nate and I have no problems. Weapons are pretty simple to use, a menu can be accessed by right-clicking and you can select any weapon there. Many weapons will allow you to control how hard you throw or launch a weapon, this is an important skill to learn for making precision shots. Other weapons will simply have you choose a location for destruction then firing or calling in the airstrike, such as that concrete donkey I mentioned.
More configuration options are available to the WWP player. You can customize your team from their voices to what their graves look like when they die. Your choice of fort will affect your play as I learned when I picked one poorly and Nate was able to use the ninja rope to make easy strikes by going right over the ocean separating our bases. Also, a super weapon can be chose for your team and you will start with one of these in each battle, use it wisely.
Worms World Party is a very fun experience and many of the multiplayer matches I've played have turned out to be pretty hilarious. The graphics are beautifully animated 2D and the sound adds some extra humor as worms tend to whine when in pain or say goodbye before they blow themselves up. WWP gets a 7/10 for single player mode but when I load up a multiplayer game this becomes a 10/10. Buy it here.
