Battlecruisers are the ultimate Terran unit. They feature the highest durability of any unit type and can dish a ton of damage. Although they appear late in the campaign they are still highly useful in the final missions. Deployment of these in Multiplayer generally means it's a long match, as they are at the pinnacle of the Terran tech tree.
Battlecruiser Special Abilities and Upgrades
Battlecruisers' claim to fame is their Yamato Cannon. They come with this ability by default, but the special must be researched at the Fusion Core in Multiplayer, where it costs 150 Minerals/Vespene and takes one minute to complete. The upgrade is worth it: they can deliver in just 3 seconds a total of 300 damage, and from a much further range than their other weapons. A fully charged Battlecruiser can only fire off one Yamato as its cost is 125 and the capital ship has 200 maximum. The Yamato's range is usually enough to outdistance the opponent's ranged defenses. A single shot can nuke a missile turret, and many large units.
Their Armory Upgrades in the campaign are fairly lackluster for their usefulness so late in the game. Have a look at my Upgrades guide for more information.
I highly recommend packing on the Armor upgrades first. Battlecruisers are expensive and this will increase their survivability much more than a weapons upgrade. After all, only a few of them are ever likely to be involved in any engagement and the firepower is often going to be focused on them.
Note the fast attack speed of their weapons. They can deliver over 30 damage in a second to a ground target. Anti-air is not so great, but it will keep them alive a lot of the time. Vikings just can't be replaced for ruling the skies as a Terran.
