Star Trek Movies on DVD

The Motion Picture on DVD

Star Trek The Motion Picture

It's been a while since I've seen this one. I personally wouldn't own it as I wasn't impressed with it. It all boils down to a plot involving a mysterious space cloud that is destroying ships on its way to Earth. Admiral Kirk takes command of the ship, which was in the middle of a major refit, and heads off on a course to investigate the energy cloud. Of course, they pick up Spock on the way who is undergoing a Vulcan ritual. It's hard to talk about this one too much without ruining the plot (a very slow plot which would make ruining it worse). I don't highly recommend this but it would make a 'complete' DVD collection. I'm not sure if I dislike this one or The Final Frontier the most.

The Wrath of Khan on DVD

Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan

This is the best classic Star Trek movie in my opinion. It's a just plain kickass plot with nice effects and numerous combat encounters. While on a scientific mission to locate a planet suitable for using the newly developed genesis device (makes a habitable, teeming with life planet from a lifeless one) the crew of a federation starship (one U.S.S. Reliant) accidentally beams down a party (Chekhov included) to confirm it's lifeless. Unfortunately they mistook the planet for another and transported themselves down to where the superhuman Khan was imprisoned. He takes over the Reliant and has but one thing in mind - Kirk! Numerous combat scenes ensue and the enterprise gets pretty beaten up. Khan also gets control of the Genesis device, which is not a good thing. It's a movie worth watching over and over.

The Search for Spock on DVD

Star Trek 3: The Search for Spock

After his death at the end of Khan, Spock's lifeless body was launched onto the newly formed Genesis planet. Dr. Mccoy posesses spock's Katra (or soul) and Spock's father (Sarek) informs Mccoy that for a proper funeral they should retrieve Spock's body, along with the Katra. The crew sets off to get Spock's body back from the planet but they're not the first to arrive. Lt. Saavik and Kirk's son are there investigating the newly formed planet when they discover a child, alone (Spock). A Klingon vessel arrives and the captain of this vessel is interested in Genesis. It's up to the badly beaten (from the battle with Khan) enterprise to save the day and rescue the scientists/keep genesis out of the Klingon's hands. This movie's good, especially paired with the previous!

The Voyage Home on DVD

Star Trek 4: The Voyage Home

When a vessel arrives at Earth and begins broadcasting eerie sounds, the crew of the enterprise (now aboard a hijacked bird of prey) determines it's broadcasting the sounds of humpback whales. This vessel is tearing up the planet and causing power failures to nearby vessels. The crew then uses the slingshot maneuver to travel back to 1986 and get some humpback whales, which were later hunted to extinction. There's not a lot of action in this movie but fortunately it has a very solid story. There's plenty of humor and you get to see the crew interacting. This is worth buying, especially since it basically comes right after III, which is one of the best!

The Final Frontier on DVD

Star Trek 5: The Final Frontier

I wasn't thrilled with this film at all. Spock's brother Sybok takes hostages on the planet Nimbus III and the Enterprise, now under the full command of one *Captain* James T. Kirk, heads off to rescue them. Sybok has alternate motives however and takes control of the Enterprise using his powers. He intends to cross a 'great barrier' and meet 'God'. I'm afraid the plot is pretty weak, especially upon arrival to this godly planet. You can of course make your own opinion about it but I just really wan't very fond.

The Undiscovered Country on DVD

Star Trek 6: The Undiscovered Country

They make up for Star Trek V, I think, with this film, which is probably the second best(under II) of the classic Star Trek films in my opinion. When the Klingon moon praxis is destroyed the Klingons are put into a tight spot and attempt to make peace with the Federation. To the dismay of Kirk (hates klingons after one killed his son) he's sent to do the negotiating. When the two ships meet however, the enterprise appears(framed) to fire on the vessel of the Klingon chancellor. Two humanoids in starfleet gear board the ship and slaughter everyone aboard, assassinating the chancellor. Thus begins our great plot involving much deception on the part of one Klingon General who is attempting to stop the peace process. Great movie!

Generations on DVD

Star Trek Generations

The first major motion picture involving the Next Generation crew is a good one. It's not as good as First Contact but it can hold its own against other Star Trek films. The opening scene takes place 80 years before TNG and features guest appearances by Kirk, Scotty and Chekhov. Kirk is lost when the Enterprise B, on its shakedown cruise, runs afoul on a rescue mission and is trapped in a spatial distortion known as the nexus ribbon. Kirk saves the day but vanishes into the ribbon. Onboard, a younger Guinan (damn she's old) and a Dr. Tolian Soran are both rescued. The plot heats up when we return to the TNG era and the enterprise must stop the evil Soran, who is trying, with the help of the vile klingons L'ursa and B'etor, to return to the nexus ribbon. Can't miss: Data is pretty damn funny in this movie as he experiments with the emotion chip. Also, the destruction of one Galaxy class starship.

First Contact on DVD

Star Trek First Contact

This is surely my favorite TNG-era movie as it actually involves an old enemy - the Borg! In classic Star Trek storytelling goodness they're out to save the planet! The Borg travel back in time and attempt to stop First Contact so they can finally succeed in assimilating the annoying Earthlings. Picard and company have a lot to say about that as they travel back to the year 2063 to ensure that Zephram Cochran makes his historic jump to light speed in the rickety Phoenix spacecraft, which attracts the attention of the Vulcans who initiate, well, First Contact. Cool things in this movie: The Enterprise E! It's totally awesome and we see it for the first time here. Also a huge fleet battle against the borg cube attacking earth ala Wolf 359 (Best of Both Worlds). I love this movie and this special edition DVD is packed with features.

Insurrection on DVD

Star Trek Insurrection

This movie wasn't as warmly received as the other movies in the TNG-era but it's still a good movie. Picard and crew must stop Ru'afo and a renegade Starfleet Admiral from relocating an entire race from their paradise planet. This planet posesses a fountain-of-youth-like quality that the exiled Ru'afo and his crew seek desperately to posess. One moment was very happy for the blind Geordi, whose eyes begin to heal themselves while on the planet. Other crew members experience other invigorating and strange (Worf's puberty) affects as well but his is the best. There's some cool but short-lived ship-to-ship combat here and Riker gets to make up his own maneuver to handle the enemy. The ending was good. I just felt the movie itself wasn't as good as the others. But, with such greats to compare it to, that's no wonder.

Nemesis on DVD

Star Trek Nemesis

This is a decent movie. It didn't do very good at the theater at all however as it was foolishly released between Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings that year. I managed to even miss it in the theater because of that. When I was about to go I discovered it was gone. The plot involves an evil Reman (subjugate race of the Romulans) performing a political coup and becoming the Praetor. He builds a mighty ship (the Scimitar) and intends to destroy Earth (he's a major racist). The Enterprise and a friendly pair of Romulan ships immediately begin trying to locate this powerful vessel and its mad captain before it can accomplish its goal. There's one problem however (as in ST:6) the Scimitar can fire while cloaked! This movie is almost an all out ship battle. Perhaps that makes the plot suffer, but I enjoyed it. People have mixed opinions. Decide for yourself

Star Trek: The Next Generation (TNG) DVDs

TNG Season 1 on DVD

Star Trek TNG: The Complete First Season

This one naturally has a lot of character development. In the first episode most of the crew gets to show off, introducing to you their distinct personality traits which make them excellent officers. This season also begins a lot of relationship development among the crew. Among my favorite episodes are: Hide and Q in which the notorious Q returns to again harass the crew, The Battle in which we learn some of the great Captain Picard's past and Datalore, the episode where we first meet Data's nortorious brother, Lore.

TNG Season 2 on DVD

Star Trek TNG: The Complete Second Season

I never really liked the first episode of this, The Child. I guess it's just not the type of episode I enjoy, as are most of the ones that Troi dominates. Another annoyance in this season for me is the presence of Dr. Pulaski. I think most fans would agree that Crusher is the top doc! There are some memorable episodes to be viewed here, however. Among the best I'd say are The Icarus Factor in which we meet Riker's father, Peak Performance in which the crew splits into teams and has a simulated starship battle, and Q Who? in which the ever-amusing Q flings the enterprise into its first encounter with the malevolent race known as the Borg

TNG Season 3 on DVD

Star Trek TNG: The Complete Third Season

Cheers, Crusher's back in this season and with her are some great episodes. Some of my favorites are Hollow Pursuits in which Lieutenant Barclay becomes obsessed with the Holodeck (as I probably would if I ever got bored of the ship), Deja Q has, (you guessed it), Q returning but this time without his powers, very funny episode. The season finale is among the best of the series, titled The Best of Both Worlds. Resistance is futile!

TNG Season 4 on DVD

Star Trek TNG: The Complete Fourth Season

The huge cliffhanger at the end of season 3 is alleviated with the viewing of The Best of Both Worlds Part II. This season is really great and I think it might even be the best in the series, overall. Another great from this year is Future Imperfect, where Commander Riker wakes up in the future as the Captain of the Enterprise. Another great - Q returns yet again for the episode entitled Q-pid. In this one he sets the crew up to play a deadly game of Robin Hood. This is surely one of the most amusing episodes of trek I've ever seen.

TNG Season 5 on DVD

Star Trek TNG: The Complete Fifth Season

Another strong season. Great Klingon acting is present in the premiere titled Redemption Part II, The great Leonard Nimoy makes a guest appearence in Unification Parts I & II and we see the crew struggle with huge moral issues when they discover a Borg who has been severed from the Collective in I, Borg. The Season finale titled Time's Arrow Part I is an example of a great time travel episode, which Star Trek excels at!

TNG Season 6 on DVD

Star Trek TNG: The Complete Sixth Season

True Q itself will surely attract you to this season. Q returns and trains a girl who appears to be one of the continuum in the method of using her powers. Very cool. The Chain of Command has the crew in a tight spot as Picard is captured by the Cardassians while the Enterprise is under the command of a seemingly heartless Captain. The powerful season finale, Descent, Part I deals with the repercussions of a failed attempt at stopping the Borg and the return of an infamous villain from the past.

TNG Season 7 on DVD

Star Trek TNG: The Complete Seventh Season

The final season of Star Trek: The Next Generation is, in my opinion not as good as the previous. However, several strong episodes exist which make the close of the series memorable. First we have the great conclusion to the Descent story arc which began as the season six finale. Another great is the Gambit two part episode which has the ever curious archaelogist side of Picard trying to keep a powerful artifact out of the hands of a villainous madman. Another memorable episode to me was Lower Decks which depicts the attempt of four junior officers to complete a secret mission. There is some suprisingly good guest acting in that episode. Last and certainly not least, one of my favorite episodes in the entire series and an appropriate finale All Good Things. I won't even say a word about it because I wouldn't want to spoil a single moment for someone who hasn't witnessed its majesty. It's plain awesome.

Star Trek: TNG The Complete Series on DVD

Star Trek: The Next Generation Complete Series

You can probably save a couple hundred dollars by buying the entire series at once in this boxed set. This thing has every feature of all the previous installments packed into one shipment. This is of course the recommended purchase but for many people this can be an overwhelming one and most would probably prefer to buy each individually to have them sooner than saving up for this collection. It's packed with all the features of the previous installments, of course and is identical to buying each individually save the discount. Check the price, you may find it on sale. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (DS9) DVDs

DS9 Season 1 on DVD

Star Trek Deep Space Nine: The Complete First Season

This is absolutely my favorite series though it starts somewhat slow. There are a lot of characters to be introduced and they're far more diverse than TNG in my opinion. The series opener, Emissary is somewhat a weak episode though it does feature some interesting drama between Commander Sisko and a certain Captain from TNG. It also features some important story that noone should miss. Q appears for I believe, the only time, on DS9 in the episode entitled Q-Less. It's a pretty good episode and features Vash from The Next Generation. Other interesting episodes include If Wishes Were Horses where the entire station is affected by a strange situation where wishes seemingly come true and In The Hands of The Prophets which, I believe, begins a four episode story arc involving the Bajorans whose story is very important to this series.

DS9 Season 2 on DVD

Star Trek Deep Space 9: The Complete Second Season

The opening episodes The Homecoming, The Circle and The Siege finish up 'The Circle' story arc. This is a good season and character development is prevalent. There is a great two-parter titled The Maquis that is a must-see and is one of DS9's best episodes. Finally, at the end of the episode we are met with the Jem'Hadar, in that episode Commander Sisko discovers a dangerous force dominating the other side of the wormhole.

DS9 Season 3 on DVD

Star Trek DS9: The Complete Third Season

We are immediately hit with an excellent two-parter at the beginning of season 3. It's called The Search and it's the first episode in which we see the indominable U.S.S. Defiant present. The Dominion threat grows and the excitement comes with it. This entire season is filled with treachery and deception leading up to pivotal moments in the series. Don't miss this season if you want to have a full grasp of the rest.

DS9 Season 4 on DVD

Star Trek Deep Space Nine: The Complete Fourth Season

The Way of the Warrior is one kickass episode. This episode deals with issues brought up at the end of season 3. DS9 doesn't always have many "two-parters" and is largely one story arc at this point. The Federation must gather its allies to deal with the growing Dominion threat. This is must-see action. Other notables include The Sword Of Kahless in which the former Klingon Dax and the ever-intimidating Commander Worf seek the fabled Klingon artifact and the finale, Broken Link in which Odo has some serious issues with the Founders.

DS9 Season 5 on DVD

Star Trek Deep Space 9: The Complete Fifth Season

The fifth opener: Apocalypse Rising puts Kira, Odo and Sisko in a tough spot, they're out to prove Chancellor Gowron is a changeling and it won't be an easy task. Instead of putting forth effort to garner faith in other episodes I want to point out one of my big faves - one of the episodes which leads to the big battles, Call to Arms. The crew is confident the Dominion axis is going to take over the station so they'll do their damnedest to make it a bad place to live. Very cool

DS9 Season 6 on DVD

Star Trek DS9: The Complete Sixth Season

This season of DS9 is cluttered with kickass episodes. I finally get the fleet combat I deserve in the episodes Favor the Bold and The Sacrifice of Angels. These aren't just action-packed but have wonderful story twists and important revelations. These are my two favorite episodes of DS9. At the end of the season we're met with another great: Tears of the Prophets in which an unforseeable event occurs and devastates the dominion war effort. Or so we'd like to think.

DS9 Season 7 on DVD

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: The Complete Seventh Season

Season Seven is all you'd expect from such a drawn out war. We've experienced the emotion and loss of the characters to this point and the great effort they've put forth. The finale, What You Leave Behind is somewhat disappointing to me but the series had to end sometime and, though it wasn't all I expected it surely was awesome and had some amazing combat. I'll leave it to you to decide how the storytelling went. Overall I was satisfied but I felt it could have ended just a *tad* better. I'm not sure what went wrong there.

The Complete Star Trek Deep Space Nine

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - The Complete Series

This is the best value, you get everything from seasons 1-7 identical to the individual packaging, but at a reduced cost. Highly recommended as if you get one season of DS9 you'll want them all. It's one hell of a long story. Of course if you're hungry for each season and can't afford this big purchase you can always buy them individually, as I have made available to you.

Star Trek: Voyager DVDs

Voyager Season 1 on DVD

Star Trek Voyager: The Complete First Season

In Caretaker, Voyager is flung 70,000 light years from home. Unfortunately for them, circumstances lead to their being stranded. This is where the tale begins. Voyager must make it home, how will it be accomplished? Certainly not in this season. This is ok and has some of the fresher episodes in the series. We're introduced to plenty of new species along the way. In Phage we meet the Vidiians who suffer from a deadly plague but use unethical methods to keep themselves alive. In the finale, Learning Curve, Tuvok attempts to teach several Maquis officers to follow starfleet protocols. Note that this season only has 15 episodes whereas the others have 20+

Voyager Season 2 on DVD

Star Trek Voyager: The Complete Second Season

This season is much better than the first. The crew know each other pretty well by now as they've been together a year. In Cold Fire we'll see one of the many "Hey! We get to go home... or do we?" episodes. Still, it's a decent one. In Dreadnought, Torres must disable a warhead she herself once programmed to attack the cardassians before it destroys a defenseless colony. The finale, Basics Part I strands the crew on a planet while the Kazon and the villainess Seska take over the ship.

Voyager Season 3 on DVD

Star Trek Voyager: The Complete Third Season

The opening episode leads to the conclusion of the Basics storyline, which is pretty decent. Q shows up in the episode The Q and the Grey but actually it is a weak Q episode in my opinion. Picard and Sisko do a better job interacting with him than Janeway. The finale of this season is one of the best in the series, Scorpion Part I. Can you imagine anything worse than the Borg to stand in Voyager's path home? How about Voyager working with the Borg to defeat them? Cool.

Voyager Season 4 on DVD

Star Trek Voyager: The Complete Fourth Season

The awesome conclusion to Scorpion is the opener here. It's a can't miss episode. I think what is possibly my favorite Voyager episode is also in this season. In Year of Hell, Janeway and company must deal with the whims of a powerful man and a powerful machine who is erasing entire civilizations from the timeline in an effort to restore his race. It's in my top 10 favorite Star Trek episodes to be sure.

Voyager Season 5 on DVD

Star Trek Voyager: The Complete Fifth Season

Extreme Risk brings us the new delta flyer shuttle, which is very badass for such a little ship. In Timeless, Kim and Chakotay attempt to change history 15 years after a failed attempt to bring Voyager home. Latent Image is a can't miss with an excellent plot and superb acting from Robert Picardo as the Doctor. I'll be honest and counterpoint the aforementioned great episode by saying that 11:59 is probably the worst episode of Voyager I've seen. Still, a good season

Voyager Season 6 on DVD

Star Trek Voyager: The Complete Sixth Season

The Equinox story which began as the finale of season five is finished up in this one. There are many 'decent' episodes in this season. Fortunately the finale, as they are usually, is great! Unimatrix Zero Part One leads Seven to a secret Borg hideaway where they maintain their individuality. Janeway seeks a way to capitalize on this, naturally.

Voyager Season 7 on DVD

Star Trek Voyager: The Complete Seventh Season

The conclusion of Unimatrix Zero is good as expected. Q comes back to voyager with his son and Janeway tries to teach him some manners in the very entertaining Q2. And of course there is the series finale, Endgame. Some loved it, some hated it. You know what's going to happen in the end in a way as it would be pretty crappy of the writers to not take Voyager home. Still, it's an interesting episode with plenty of action.

Star Trek Voyager: The Complete Series on DVD

Star Trek Voyager: The Complete Series Seasons 1-7

Yep. They're all here, from Caretaker to Endgame. You won't miss a single special feature as they're all packed into this collection. You certainly wouldn't miss the money you'd save over buying the sets individually, either. Still you may like some seasons for particular episodes and feel this is a big purchase.

Star Trek Enterprise DVDs

Enterprise Season 1 on DVD

Star Trek Enterprise: The Complete First Season

When a Klingon ship crash lands on Earth it's up to Archer and crew to return him to his homeworld. So begins Broken Bow and the first season of Enterprise. I really like the characters in this series, especially Charles 'Trip' Tucker and the gorgeous Vulcan T'pol. There's plenty of action in this season as well as some nice old fashioned exploration. We see humanity meet its first alien races and make its first enemies, as well. In Acquisition we meet the Ferengi but the crew is never awake to see them. The first finale, Shockwave Part I is excellent and hurls the first major cliffhanger at us. I hated waiting months to see the conclusion of an episode started as a finale, but they did manage to keep my attention that way!

Enterprise Season 2 on DVD

Star Trek Enterprise: The Complete Second Season

Shockwave is concluded first off and it doesn't disappoint. I hate those Suliban. What is probably the most amusing episode of this series is also in this season (Singularity, the crew goes just a tad nuts) and after all that exploration of the first two seasons Enterprise finally heats up with the big finale, The Expanse, in which Earth is attacked by the Xindi. This powerful race lives deep within the Delphic Expanse and intend to use an improved version of the violent weapon that killed millions of people in Florida. Their problems are mounting in this episode however as a vengeful Klingon captain is in hot pursuit. He'll stop at nothing to see Archer and his ship destroyed.

Enterprise Season 3 on DVD

Star Trek Enterprise: The Complete Third Season

Not Yet Available but will be released on September 27, 2005. You can order now and it will be shipped upon arrival
This season is awesome. Constant moments of suspense coupled with intuitive storytelling. You won't want to miss a single episode, though there are a couple of fillers - they're still usually filled with some important information on the plot. I thought one of the fillers, Similtude, was one of the best Enterprise episodes. When Trip is injured the Doctor must create a clone of him to perform a transplant. You can imagine the moral dilemma. The suspense really mounts toward the end as the Xindi prepare the weapon for deployment. There are major plot twists, moments of triumph and failure and they all come together in the awesome finale, Zero Hour.

Enterprise Season 4 on DVD

Star Trek Enterprise: The Complete Fourth Season

Not Yet Available but will be released on November 1, 2005. You can order now and it will be shipped upon arrival
This season is not as great as the last. Unfortunately it also has fewer episodes than the other seasons as the show was cancelled. Still, they didn't let it go to the crapper, they gave it a good ending. We see the end of the Temporal Cold War in Storm Front Parts I & II and an interesting mini arc involving the terrorist group Terra prime in the 20th and 21st episodes Demons and Terra Prime. The finale of the series is titled These are the Voyages and is not to be missed, dealing with key moments in the future of Enterprise as seen in a future holodeck field trip by Commander Riker and Deanna Troi of TNG. The climax of the episode is fittingly the birth of the United Federation of Planets, as is appropriate.

Star Trek: The Original Series (TOS) DVDs

I'll be honest. I haven't seen enough of The Original Series to make recommendations here. But, if you want to buy it I've provided the links below. I do know that I want to see it all and have seen several cool episodes. I simply can't stay up late enough consistently to watch it on the Sci-Fi channel.

I learned most about the crew from the movies. They're all interesting, especially James T. Kirk and Spock. Kirk is an interesting Captain and I believe would whip Picard's ass, but that's beside the point. He's different than any of the others. I believe he most resembles Sisko and Archer. They're somewhat non-standard Captains who get the job done under difficult circumstances. Spock made an excellent template for other future Vulcans to follow. Mr. Nimoy plays the role admirably. I also like the backstory of Nichelle Nichols (Uhura) overcoming racism and being one of the first popular black actresses. I'll really have a lot more to say about this series when I finally get around to buying these three seasons for myself.

Now that I've seen the new Star Trek movie, I will certainly look into watching more of the original series in the future!

Other Star Trek Stuff

Starship Enterprise NCC-1701A modelNX-01 Enterprise Model by Polar Lights

Starship Models by Polar Lights

They don't make as much Trek stuff as they used to, I tell ya. I can't find a decent model anywhere but auction sites for like $100. Those are the old kind and are great collector's items. The new ones by polar lights are much larger than those ever were and are designed to be lighted. I think these would be great hanging from the ceiling of a darkened room with the lights running. The Enterprise A model is a whopping 33 inches long and the NX-01 Enterprise model is 24 inches. I told you they were big. I anxiously await models of the Galaxy and Sovereign classes from these people.

The Star Trek Encyclopedia

The Star Trek Encyclopedia

Originally released in 1997, this version has been updated to include the end of DS9, Insurrection and up to the fifth season of Voyager. I don't see a newer one around. I guess this was the last edition. Still, it has over 5000 entries and plenty of color photos. I like that it fully covers DS9 at least. I'm not really worried about Voyager being covered completely. I've read this book and it's great. When it was new it was very expensive but can be purchased for a pretty reasonable price now. This is one huge book.

Voice Operated Lamp Dimmer

Voice-Controlled Lamp Dimmer

Why turn that lamp on manually. Live in the future with this Star Trek voice controlled lamp dimmer. Order your lamp around as you would if you had quarters on the Enterprise! This device accepts simple voice commands to change the lighting by 3 different levels. With the auxiliary lighting feature this device doubles as a night light! To top off a cool thing, it actually responds in Majel Roddenberry's voice! I think it looks a little cheesy but perhaps your electrical socket is hidden or you don't mind the look.

The Worf Bat'lethThe Gowron Bat'leth

Klingon Bat'leths

These are Bat'leths, the favored weapon of the Klingons. Amazon.com has about 8 different designs of this fine weapon, but I decided to pick the two I like the most. Click the name of the batleth you're interested in to check the price. They're not all that expensive considering they're both huge and made of stainless steel. The Worf Bat'leth, on the right, comes in at 48" in length. The Gowron version of the bat'leth to the left is a full 5 feet long. I think the Gowron version is very cool looking and would bring a look of majesty hanging on any wall.

My Background as a Star Trek Fan

I've loved Star Trek for a very long time. Actually, about half of my time as a living thing and I'm 23 years old. Trek has been a major influence in my life. It got me interested in science and was my only subjection to a dramatic television series as a teen.

I have an old friend's father to thank for introducing me. He was a faithful watcher of TNG and I managed to catch a few episodes when his wife while she was was taping it for him. I saw and experienced the commanding acting of Patrick Stewart as Captain Jean Luc Picard. He's still my favorite captain today. I didn't get to see much of this great series before it ended and was replaced with the next series, Voyager.

Deep Space Nine was already out when I started watching but I didn't get really interested in it until later. The first series I saw from the beginning was Voyager. This wasn't the best series, in hindsight (I feel DS9 was but some will naturally disagree), but it was a chance to escape the world and go on a grand adventure with the heroic Captain Janeway and her crew. Well, as we all know, life can throw a wrench in your plans. I didn't get to see Voyager from beginning to end but I caught most of it, and was there to say goodbye when the crew finally returned home.

It was around this time that I got to see almost every episode of DS9 through watching syndicated reruns. The dominion war storyline is full compelling episodes depicting the United Federation of Plants' struggle against the Dominion and Cardassian alliance. This was probably the most powerful series and once it hit season four was mostly episode-to-episode story arcs. I believe the Dominion was first discovered at the end of season 2 and the war began in season 4 and continued through the series. Those are the best episodes by far. It's also one of the times I got to see some cool sci-fi fleet to fleet starship combat. Truly stunning visuals. I don't know how they managed to pull off such kickass effects on a normal television show at the time but I applaud the effects crew of that show.

I must admit I was disappointed when I learned that the next series, Enterprise, was going to be before even the original series in the Star Trek timeline. I judged poorly the potential of this show and managed to watch every episode except one (my cable was out, grr). I wouldn't want to spoil a bit of the action in this series but was very happy with the storytelling, despite the comments I've read on forums criticizing Rick Berman and Brannon Braga. Enterprise ended a little early (that is to say, was cancelled.

It's sad that for the first time in years we don't have a new season of a series to look forward to. Trek still has a devoted fanbase and I know some of them will want to partake in the wonderful new marvel that is the DVD. You can get an entire season of any trek series for a very reasonable price. Not only that, the DVDs are very compact and are unobtrusive. I remember the VHS tapes I once had of TNG that had two episodes each. Man those would take up a lot of space. I could fit every episode of every series in one of my dresser drawers now.
