This is absolutely my favorite series though it starts somewhat slow. There are a lot of characters to be introduced and they're far more diverse than TNG in my opinion. The series opener, Emissary is somewhat a weak episode though it does feature some interesting drama between Commander Sisko and a certain Captain from TNG. It also features some important story that noone should miss. Q appears for I believe, the only time, on DS9 in the episode entitled Q-Less. It's a pretty good episode and features Vash from The Next Generation. Other interesting episodes include If Wishes Were Horses where the entire station is affected by a strange situation where wishes seemingly come true and In The Hands of The Prophets which, I believe, begins a four episode story arc involving the Bajorans whose story is very important to this series.
The opening episodes The Homecoming, The Circle and The Siege finish up 'The Circle' story arc. This is a good season and character development is prevalent. There is a great two-parter titled The Maquis that is a must-see and is one of DS9's best episodes. Finally, at the end of the episode we are met with the Jem'Hadar, in that episode Commander Sisko discovers a dangerous force dominating the other side of the wormhole.
We are immediately hit with an excellent two-parter at the beginning of season 3. It's called The Search and it's the first episode in which we see the indominable U.S.S. Defiant present. The Dominion threat grows and the excitement comes with it. This entire season is filled with treachery and deception leading up to pivotal moments in the series. Don't miss this season if you want to have a full grasp of the rest.
The Way of the Warrior is one kickass episode. This episode deals with issues brought up at the end of season 3. DS9 doesn't always have many "two-parters" and is largely one story arc at this point. The Federation must gather its allies to deal with the growing Dominion threat. This is must-see action. Other notables include The Sword Of Kahless in which the former Klingon Dax and the ever-intimidating Commander Worf seek the fabled Klingon artifact and the finale, Broken Link in which Odo has some serious issues with the Founders.
The fifth opener: Apocalypse Rising puts Kira, Odo and Sisko in a tough spot, they're out to prove Chancellor Gowron is a changeling and it won't be an easy task. Instead of putting forth effort to garner faith in other episodes I want to point out one of my big faves - one of the episodes which leads to the big battles, Call to Arms. The crew is confident the Dominion axis is going to take over the station so they'll do their damnedest to make it a bad place to live. Very cool
This season of DS9 is cluttered with kickass episodes. I finally get the fleet combat I deserve in the episodes Favor the Bold and The Sacrifice of Angels. These aren't just action-packed but have wonderful story twists and important revelations. These are my two favorite episodes of DS9. At the end of the season we're met with another great: Tears of the Prophets in which an unforseeable event occurs and devastates the dominion war effort. Or so we'd like to think.
Season Seven is all you'd expect from such a drawn out war. We've experienced the emotion and loss of the characters to this point and the great effort they've put forth. The finale, What You Leave Behind is somewhat disappointing to me but the series had to end sometime and, though it wasn't all I expected it surely was awesome and had some amazing combat. I'll leave it to you to decide how the storytelling went. Overall I was satisfied but I felt it could have ended just a *tad* better. I'm not sure what went wrong there.
This is the best value, you get everything from seasons 1-7 identical to the individual packaging, but at a reduced cost. Highly recommended as if you get one season of DS9 you'll want them all. It's one hell of a long story. Of course if you're hungry for each season and can't afford this big purchase you can always buy them individually, as I have made available to you.
