Enterprise Season 1 on DVD

Enterprise: The Complete First Season

When a Klingon ship crash lands on Earth it's up to Archer and crew to return him to his homeworld. So begins Broken Bow and the first season of Enterprise. I really like the characters in this series, especially Charles 'Trip' Tucker and the gorgeous Vulcan T'pol. There's plenty of action in this season as well as some nice old fashioned exploration. We see humanity meet its first alien races and make its first enemies, as well. In Acquisition we meet the Ferengi but the crew is never awake to see them. The first finale, Shockwave Part I is excellent and hurls the first major cliffhanger at us. I hated waiting months to see the conclusion of an episode started as a finale, but they did manage to keep my attention that way!

Enterprise Season 2 on DVD

Enterprise: The Complete Second Season

Shockwave is concluded first off and it doesn't disappoint. I hate those Suliban. What is probably the most amusing episode of this series is also in this season (Singularity, the crew goes just a tad nuts) and after all that exploration of the first two seasons Enterprise finally heats up with the big finale, The Expanse, in which Earth is attacked by the Xindi. This powerful race lives deep within the Delphic Expanse and intend to use an improved version of the violent weapon that killed millions of people in Florida. Their problems are mounting in this episode however as a vengeful Klingon captain is in hot pursuit. He'll stop at nothing to see Archer and his ship destroyed.

This season is awesome. Constant moments of suspense coupled with intuitive storytelling. You won't want to miss a single episode, though there are a couple of fillers - they're still usually filled with some important information on the plot. I thought one of the fillers, Similtude, was one of the best Enterprise episodes. When Trip is injured the Doctor must create a clone of him to perform a transplant. You can imagine the moral dilemma. The suspense really mounts toward the end as the Xindi prepare the weapon for deployment. There are major plot twists, moments of triumph and failure and they all come together in the awesome finale, Zero Hour.

This season is not as great as the last. Unfortunately it also has fewer episodes than the other seasons as the show was cancelled. Still, they didn't let it go to the crapper, they gave it a good ending. We see the end of the Temporal Cold War in Storm Front Parts I & II and an interesting mini arc involving the terrorist group Terra prime in the 20th and 21st episodes Demons and Terra Prime. The finale of the series is titled These are the Voyages and is not to be missed, dealing with key moments in the future of Enterprise as seen in a future holodeck field trip by Commander Riker and Deanna Troi of TNG. The climax of the episode is fittingly the birth of the United Federation of Planets, as is appropriate.
