Update 12/11/13: I am back to working on Strategy Guides for the DLCs. Here are the latest::

Civilization 5 India - Leader: Gandhi
Civ Bonuses, Strategies, Unique Units and Buildings
Civilization Name: India
Civ Leader: Gandhi
Civ Bonus: Population Growth:
Unhappiness from the number of Cities is doubled, but Unhappiness from Population size in current city is halved.
Unique Unit: War Elephant
Requires The Wheel Tech, Upgrades to Knight
The War Elephant replaces the War Chariot, and doesn't require Horses to create - nor ivory, so no strategic resource required. It loses one move, but has 50% more melee combat strength and gains +1 ranged power (a 10% gain) as well. That's a fair tradeoff, particularly when you realize that while the War Elephant has one less move, it also loses the rough terrain penalty of the Chariot, which will make you lose all moves when entering rough terrain. That makes the War Elephant better at going off-road to reach its targets. Great! Despite the move penalty theyl still keep pace with your other ground troops and aid a lot in bringing down cities. Ancient Era Butt Kickings galore.
Unique Building: Mughal Fort
Requires Chivalry Tech, Walls Constructed in City
The Mughal Fort is a great step up from the castle it replaces. They provide +2 culture to a City, meaning you will want them in not only your Border cities but also the safe cities, to boost their cultural output without a gold maintenance cost. Later in the game, after Flight is researched, Mughal Forts will provide +2 Tourism to your Empire, helping you toward a Cultural Victory.
Ahh, the choice for those among us who don't like massive sprawling empires and wouldn't mind making our way scientifically, culturally, or through diplomacy. India is great at having about three or four cities with massive populations. Their Mughal Fort encourages a potential Cultural or Scientific Victory. Gandhi would not be my choice for conquest. Clearly their War Elephant is powerful and will be great at relieving CIvilizations of their cities, but it'd probably be best served taking out City-States and converting them into Puppet States.
|Sid Meier's Civ 5 is a deep strategy game. I created these individual civ guides to highlight the strengths of their specials and unique units. If you have an opener or tip for playing this Civ that you would like to share with other readers, please use the comments form below.|
