Vladivostok: Taking Back Ice-Harbor

Mission Objectives:
  • Clear the Island of Enemy Forces
  • Construct a Barracks and Naval yard
  • Destroy the Imperial Scout base
  • Destroy the Imperial Naval base
  • Set up Base Defenses
  • Destroy the Generators
  • Destroy the Imperial Military Admin

The Soviet bullfrogs should launch your troops to the center of the island. Kill the defenders, then the power plants to have no problem taking out the defender-vx turretsYou will begin this mission with three bullfrogs full of infantry. Move them to the northeast, toward the island then use their secondary ability to launch your infantry to the center of the island. Destroy the power plants first so that the turrets will be disabled. When they are offline, you can start taking out everything else. Don't worry when the mecha tengus come and kill your army from the southeast. You will gain some reinforcements in the form of several stingray strike craft. They will be plenty enough to finish up the job, as they are strong against vehicles. You will take one end of the island while your co-commander takes the other.

MCVs will arrive for both you and your co-commander. You should take the northern section of the island. I like to place the MCV in the middle of the two refineries. This will be your first opportunity to build structures in Red Alert 3 if you are starting with the Soviets. The first structure you should build is a power plant. Since you are sharing income with your co-commander, you will not want to spend too much early. Build your two ore refineries as soon as they're available. In the mean time, You should build sets of 1 flak cannon and 1 sentry gun immediately to the northeast of your base (so mecha tengus have a hard time ambushing your refineries), and two of the pairs at the two locations for the Build Defenses secondary objective at the yellow locations on the map (you don't have to place the defenses exactly on the yellow beacons). You will need extra power to do this, so be careful not to go too low.

Work on getting a shipyard, which you can place to the southwest or northeast, your pick. I prefer the south as it gets crowded to the northeast and later attacks could force you to build a second. Build your barracks last so you have the defenses up before the map expands. The bullfrogs you started with at the beginning can be used to transport troops to the power plants so that the naval yard south of them is destroyed easily. Use waypoints (alt-click) to send the bullfrogs loaded with several flak troopers and a small army of conscripts along a route that follows the south part of the map and goes to the southeast corner, then launch the troops from the bullfrogs to destroy the power plants. An engineer could be used to capture the drydock (allows ships to self-repair) following a similar route.

The Soviet Dreadnought can bombard enemies with v-4 rockets from afar. It is especially powerful in situations where you have both naval and air superiority!Once the power plants are destroyed, you will have no trouble taking out the Scout base and the naval yard that protected it. This will complete an objective and give you access to the dreadnoughts that were berthed near the naval yard. Hotkey the dreadnoughts and keep a group of stingrays near them at all times for protection. At your base, use spare funds to build some stingrays and bullfrogs to protect from land and sea assaults on your base. A group of at least six stingrays and a couple bullfrogs should escort the dreadnoughts as they move north toward the peninsula that is protected by several defender-vx turrets and a small fleet of destroyers. Eliminate all opposition and send an engineer to capture the barracks on the peninsula. The small base there should be no challenge. With that done, taking out the naval base is no problem.

Once the naval base is down, you will be told to destroy the Imperial Military Admin, which is in the northeastern corner. If your dreadnoughts have survived you are in great shape. Try to have at least ten stingrays ready for a land assault because the dreadnoughts cannot reach the admin itself, but they can destroy everything that protects it! Move slowly, finding targets for your dreadnoughts. Pound the tsunami tanks then move in for the kill. The Empire will raise a force shield around the admin, and will bring in several units escorted by a king Oni. Destroy the oni with your dreadnoughts then mop up the rest.
