Carl's Rise of Legends Guide

Vinci Units: Aerodrome

Guide Index  |  Aerodrome  |  Barracks  |  Steam Fortress

All units from the Aerodrome are flying units. The Aerodrome slightly increases your national borders. All units, save the air destroyer can be built at small city level. You should utilize units from this building in every game.

Note about Ramping unit costs: Ramping increases the cost of a unit for each unit of a same type that is built. For example, a heartseeker begins costing 45 wealth. With a ramping increase of 3 wealth, the second heartseeker would cost you 48 wealth; the third 51 and so forth. It's wise to have a diversified army because of this increase. Some units have extremely high ramping costs.

The Scout flyer is very fast and features a plethora of abilities.Scout Flyer
Initial Stats:
Scout Flyer: Ground/Siege/Air Attack: None / Health: 70 / Speed: 62 / Line of Sight: 20 / Size: Smalle / Armor: Light / Attack Type: No Attack
Improved Scout Flyer: Ground/Siege/Air Attack: None / Health: 125 / Speed: 66 / Line of Sight: 21 / Size: Small / Armor: Light / Attack Type: No Attack
Super Scout Flyer: Ground/Siege/Air Attack: None / Health: 145 / Speed: 70 / Line of Sight: 22 / Size: Small / Armor: Light / Attack Type: No Attack Requires Large City
Ultra Scout Flyer: Ground/Siege/Air Attack: None / Health: 165 / Speed: 74 / Line of Sight: 23 / Size: Small / Armor: Light / Attack Type: No Attack Requires Great City

Cost: 35 Wealth Ramping increase of 10 Wealth. population cost 2

The Vinci Scout Flyer will serve you well, as you always start with one of them. They should be set to auto-explore so that they can reveal the map and pick up relics. The Vinci scout flyer can be upgraded to perform a myriad of tasks, however, but their uses are questionable.

The Improved model can drop a gun drone which will deal 2 damage per second to ground targets. It does feature no attack type, thus deals full damage to opponents but one has to ask, why bother spending the wealth on enough of these to make it effective?
The Super model can drop an air mine drone that delivers damage to air targets. Still, it is not very useful because other units could be used to perform the task of killing air units.
The Ultra model can drop a bomb that deals very minor damage to ground targets. It hits a large radius but requires a lot of micromanagement to be used effectively. The cooldown on the bomb is very, very long and it doesn't deal much damage anyway.
You're better off sticking with the scout you started with than purchasing any upgrades for these units. I just don't care for them. They can be used as scouts, obviously, to check forward of your attack group and find holes in the enemy's defense. Their cheap price makes them very disposable.

Pirata flyers are great units for a lot of tasks, especially raiding enemy miners..Pirata Flyer
Initial Stats:
Pirata Flyer: Ground Attack: 5 / Siege Attack: 2.4 / Range: 14 / Health: 210 / Air Attack: 11 / Speed: 60 / Line of Sight: 18 / Size: Medium / Armor: Light / Attack Type: Piercing
Improved Pirata Flyer: Ground Attack: 8 / Siege Attack: 4.8 / Range: 14 / Health: 300 / Air Attack: 15 / Speed: 64 / Line of Sight: 19 / Size: Medium / Armor: Medium / Attack Type: Piercing Requires Large City
Super Pirata Flyer: Ground Attack: 11 / Siege Attack: 7.2 / Range: 14 / Health: 390 / Air Attack: 19 / Speed: 68 / Line of Sight: 20 / Size: Medium / Armor: Medium / Attack Type: Piercing Requires Great City

Cost: 70 Wealth. Ramping increase of 10 Wealth. population cost 2

Piratas, as their name implies, are excellent 'pirate' raiders. Their high speed makes them the unit of choice for the Vinci player wishing to raid enemy mining sites. They, in number, can take down miners quite quickly. Pirata flyers will be used by you often if you are to be a good vinci player. Use them to strike outlying enemy mining sites and to reinforce your armies.

They are lightning quick at what they do, but they do manage to pack a punch. Piratas have a very powerful anti-air attack for their cost and should be utlized as quick-response anti-air defense for your cities. Keep them hotkeyed at all times and don't lose them. They are quick enough to run away from most engagements while, hopefully, you have researched the prosperity technology track for them to heal. Notice that upgrading to the improved pirata flyer grants them medium armor which is the most versatile armor type in Rise of Legends.

Cargo Dirigibles can be used to supply units over enemy lines and provide an attack strength bonus to all within a certain radius.Cargo Dirigible
Initial Stats:
Cargo Dirigible: Ground/Siege/Air Attack: None / Supply Range: 22 / Transport: 5 / Health: 150 / Speed: 35 / Line of Sight: 9 / Size: Large / Armor: Medium
Improved Cargo Dirigible: Ground/Siege/Air Attack: None / Supply Range: 22 / Transport: 10 / Health: 300 / Speed: 40 / Line of Sight: 9 / Size: Large / Armor: Medium Requires Large City
Heavy Cargo Dirigible: Ground/Siege/Air Attack: None / Supply Range: 22 / Transport: 20 / Health: 600 / Speed: 45 / Line of Sight: 9 / Size: Large / Armor: Heavy Requires Great City

Cost: 50 Timonium and 50 Wealth. Ramping increase of 10 Timonium and Wealth. population cost 2

The Cargo dirigible is useful for multiple reasons. You can transport units with it, first and foremost. Use the dirigible to make a shortcut over mountains and other impassible terrain. The strategic uses of this are vast. You could use a scout flyer to check the area to make sure it's safe for your dirigibles to pass. Units will be lost if the dirigible they're in is destroyed.

The secondary use of the cargo dirigible is that it can supply units. Supplied units take no attrition damage beyond enemy borders. The supply effect also improves unit attack strength slightly. This unit's usefulness when sieging is very high. Keep it back so that it takes no damage but make sure the supply radius encircles your units. A large army supplied deals much more damage than an unsupplied one.

The Vinci Air destroyer is one of the most useful inits in Rise of Legends.Air Destroyer
Initial Stats:
Air Destroyer: Ground Attack: 24 / Siege Attack: 16 / Range: 14 / Health: 725 / Air Attack: 6 / Speed: 57 / Line of Sight: 18 / Size: Large / Armor: Heavy / Attack Type: Skilled Requires Large City
Air Cruiser: Ground Attack: 31 / Siege Attack: 19 / Range: 14 / Health: 875 / Air Attack: 10 / Speed: 60 / Line of Sight: 18 / Size: Large / Armor: Heavy / Attack Type: Skilled Requires Great City

Cost: 100 Timonium and 250 Wealth. Ramping increase of 10 Timonium and 25 Wealth. population cost 5

Air cruisers are hell against small units, dealing 100% damage. Even against large opponents they are useful due to their barrage ability. When using the barrage ability, the Air destroyer gains the universal attack type and utilizes and advanced attack that increases damage. This bonus isn't long at destroyer stage but is vastly expanded when upgraded to cruiser. Air cruisers are one of the best units the Vinci possess. They are an excellent way to spend your wealth when in the late-game. Their flying capability grants them immunity from land-based attacks and makes them highly mobile responders to enemy attacks.
