Heroes' Quest Walkthrough
Quest Requirements: Dragon Slayer, Druidic Ritual, Lost City, Merlin's Crystal, and Shield of Arrav
The Quest Reward: 1 Quest point, Access to the Heroes' Guild, 29,232 xp spread over twelve skills, Ability to wear the dragon battleaxe and dragon mace (sold upstairs in heroes guild but much cheaper on the great exchange).
What you need: 55 total Quest Points, 53 Cooking, 53 Fishing, 50 Mining, 25 herblore and combat skills high enough to kill a level 111 creature (I did this at level 75: consider prayer potions, sharks etc. and you'll be fine). Additionally, the following items (in their order of use): normal Fishing Rod, Fishing bait, 1 clean harralander/1 vial of water (combine to make unfinished harralander potion), a pickaxe, anti-dragon shield and dusty key. I am unsure whether you actually need ice gloves but they are used in later quests and are a non-tradable item so gathering them during this quest is a wise idea.
To start this quest, head to the Heroes'Guild north-northwest of Falador (you can see its location by clicking on the world map and typing in hero then pressing enter). Speak to Achiettes, and tell him you're a hero that would like to join. He'll task you with gathering one cooked lava eel, a firebird's feather and a master thieves armband. Additionally Black Arms gang members need the following: Black full helmet, black platelegs and black platebody. Buy them on the grand exchange. it might be best to get an order started before you head out so that the buyouts will complete. Phoenix gang will need ranged attacks of some sort, magic or bow.
How to get a Cooked Lava Eel
Head to Port Sarim's fishing shop and talk to Gerrant. Ask him about lava eel, and he'll give you Blamish snail slime. Use this with your unfinished harralander potion to create blamish oil. Use it on your fishing rod to make it into an oily fishing rod. Now gear up to run past some dragons (bring an anti-dragon shield, and some food), and take your dusty key (can be bought or found on the way if you don't own one).Go to the Taverly dungeon (west of Falador) with your oily fishing rod and bait and head north, around past the flying axes and scorpions. Here you can choose to head south and get a dusty key if you don't have one:
To get a dusty key:
Head south from the scorpions, past the hill giants and you will find an area with black knights. Head east to the jail and kill the jailer and take his key. Unlock the cell holding Velrak and talk to him. Then return to the area with scorpions
West of the scorpions are chaos dwarves, head past them to the north and dodge the lesser demons while using your dusty key on the gate here. You should be sure to have your anti-dragon shield equipped! Run through to the west, then south when you can. After a little while you'll come across three fishing spots with baby blue dragons hanging around. I had luck fishing the westernmost spot because it was clear of dragons. You may have to clear a spot and fish quickly, but be sure you've oiled your rod! Try to catch a few to be safe. I don't know if you can burn the eels or not. Once you've caught several, head back to a range to cook up the eel. Now you can bank it and your fishing gear, as well as anti-dragon shield .
How to get a Firebird's Feather
Like I said previously, I'm not sure if the ice queen is necessary for the fire bird's feather, but it's a good thing to pick up because you will need it for a few other quests laterGear yourself for combat to take on the level 111 ice queen. Bring good food, potions and have full prayer because it's a multi-combat area, and maybe consider bringing a partner if you're low level because she has guards. A pickaxe will also be required, and you should bring something with which to teleport back out. Your destination to find the ice gloves is the white wolf mountain. The entrance is south of the heroes guild. Go from the south side and walk all the way to the north, then a tad west where you should find a rock slide. Use the pickaxe to clear the rocks, then head on the path to the three ladders and pick the southern one.
Follow the tunnel to the southwest, which leads to another ladder. You'll again have three ladders to choose from (including the one you came up). Pick the one to the east. Follow this extremely long tunnel until you reach yet another ladder. Climb up, then down the next one and you'll finally arrive at the ice queen's chamber.
Use your potions and get yourself buffed up and prepare to pray. Run past the ice warriors and try to get some stuck as you (likely have to force) attack the ice queen. Lay into her as much as possible, using up your prayers and food until she's dead. Hopefully not many ice warriors make it to attack you if you're low level but sharks can really help with that dilemma. When she dies, grab the ice gloves and teleport out.
Head back to a bank and store all your combat gear except the ice gloves because you must now go to Entrana where armor and weaponry are not allowed. Don't worry because the firebird you have to kill is only level 2. The monks of Entrana at Port sarim will give you a ride to the island. Head east once there, and go across the bridge that leads north. Now head northwest a bit and look around the grassy area for an Entrana firebird. Kill it (should be a cinch) and grab the firebird feather, then teleport back to a bank.

Finding a Partner for the Heroes' Quest
Here's a step by step process to finding a partner:1. Head to Runescape.com (this opens in a new window).
2. Click Community, then Forums
3. Login
4. Click the Quests forum under "Game - Runescape related discussion"
5. Click the sticky post for the "find a heroes quest partner".
6. Click Last. You will see the most recent people asking for help. Look for those of the opposite gang that you chose. They'll usually say what stage they're on.
7. Add one of these people to your friends and try to send them a message, asking if they're still working on it. If you can't find anyone, make a post of your own, being specific about your progress and what gang you are with. You may even want to include what world you're in. To find that out click friends in the game. The world number will be listed at the top.
This is where the paths differ for Black arm gang and Phoenix gang.
Black Arm Gang
Be sure to bring your 3 black armor pieces! Go to Varrock and talk to Katrine. Ask her how to become a master thief. She'll tell you about candlesticks you need to steal from Scarface Pete's mansion in Brimhaven. You'll also get a password 'four leaf clover'. Head to Brimhaven however you can, (most newer people will probably take the boat from Port Sarim to Karamja then head west once at the island). Head to the black arm base east of the bar. You will be stopped at the door and have to give the 'four leaf clover' password. Once inside, talk to Trobert to get ID papers and put on your full black set. It'll be required to enter the mansion, which is in the northwestern corner of Brimhaven, the largest house (clearly).Your role here will be to get the miscellaneous key for your Phoenix gang partner to use. Talk to Grip once you're inside and ask him questions until you get one that asks if there is anything you can do for now. He'll give you the miscellaneous key and ask you to figure out what its purpose is. Well, its purpose is to give to your phoenix gang friend so they can get into the storeroom in the northeast corner of the mansion. You can see their destination (next to the yard with guard dogs). Once you've given them the key, and they are in the room, head into the room right next to it with a cupboard. Open the cupboard and insist on looking around inside when you're warned. Grip will come to yell at you and your partner can proceed to fire at him through the window. When he's dead, grab the keyring he drops and head to the treasury (west of that room) to get the two candlesticks. Don't be a jerk, give your ally their candle! Finally, head back to Katrine to finish up and get your armband. Gather all your items from the bank and return to the heroes' guild triumphantly.
Phoenix Gang
Similar to the Black Arm gang, except talk to the leader of the phoenix gang (Straven) in the southeast of Varrock. Your role is much simpler. Head to Brimhaven, and the shrimp and parrot bar (next door to the mansion). Have your friend give you the miscellaneous key and proceed to talk to Alfonse the Waiter and Charlie the Cook. When asked, use the password 'Gherkin'. You'll discover there's a secret panel in the wall. Use it to go through a yard with guard dogs and finally into the mansion where you'll use the key on the north door. This is the room with a small window where you will snipe Grip. Wait on your partner to open the cupboard and get Grip to come then fire away.
Your partner will go get the candles from the treasury in the mansion (ideally) and trade with you (ideally). Take your candle back to Straven to get your arm band, then bank and gather all the items and return to the heroes guild and finish the quest.
