Chapter Two: Digging Up the Dead

Mission Objectives:
  • Kill the Paladin guarding the Tomb
  • Bring Arthas to Kel'Thuzad's Tomb
  • Arthas Must Survive

This mission is easier than the first Undead one in my opinion. You begin with Arthas, five ghouls and three meat wagons. Put Arthas and the ghouls into group one and the meatwagons into group two. Proceed slowly to the east destroying any enemies which come in your way. Remember to use the death coil attack to save dying ghouls and when battles are over use the ghouls' cannibalize ability to heal them. When you get to the guard tower pull your melee troops back and order the meat wagons to attack it. They have longer range and cannot be touched by the tower. Now head on to the east and kill the paladin which should be very easy. Take Arthas to the tomb and you've finished the first part of this mission.

New mission Objectives: Kill the Paladins and Recover the Urn. But we must build up a base first. Begin by ordering an acolyte to summon a necropolis. Then have that same acolyte summon a haunted gold mine over the mine. You must now wait for these things to happen but it's all part of the game. Now, when that's done order the acolytes to harvest gold and begin construction of another acolyte. This guy's gonna be your summoner. He'll take care of building everything in your base. Have him summon all the structures on the quest list and when you're able begin building additional ghouls. Take four of the existing ghouls and have them be your wood cutters. One of the nice things about undead bases are that ghouls are your wood gatherers so they can be kept hotkeyed to help defend your base should the need arise.

When you have a complete graveyard you can begin converting ziggurats into spirit towers. Ziggurats should be placed in defensive locations to cover the entrances to your base. Simply build up a force of Arthas and 11 ghouls and you'll have quite enough to begin killing Paladins. First though you may want to get the pendant of energy (+150 mana) you can nab in this chapter. Southeast of your base are three granite golems. The biggest one (level 9) is pretty damn tough and can do this damaging attack similar to the clap skill of the dwarven hero. As such I lost almost all of the ghouls here. Be sure to bring the meat wagons you have as they can hit the golem while your ghouls have him surrounded and immobile. I decided it was worth it. That's two extra death coils at full capacity.

Now you can take the path north out of your base (it curls around to the northeast) and kill the wizards there to get a voodoo doll (+1 intelligence while held). Ok. Go back to the path and this time head west. You're going to kill the first of the three paladins. His name is Ballador and he's only level 4. If he uses his invulnerability skill while you're attacking him back off your forces. It can't last more than 20 seconds. When he falls he'll drop a healing potion (whee). Replenish your forces and follow the path south.

Where it shouldn't take too much searching to find your second paladin. You may have to fight a few minor skirmishes along the way. If you see any watch towers remember - back your troops off and destroy it with meat wagons at range. Find the paladin (who's level 5 and drops gloves of haste which increase attack speed by 15%). Again, if he uses the divine shield back off for a bit and let him run out. There's nothing challenging about this. Follow the path onward after you replenish your forces once more. Destroy the blue base and once more replace any losses. The final paladin is a little more tricky than the first two. His name's Uther. Remember him? Yes, he's level 10 and yes he hits hard but a group of Arthas and 11 ghouls with meat wagons firing at him while he's standing still should be able to beat him with no problems. When he's dead you can claim the Urn and your victory.
