Chapter 6: Shards of the Alliance
Main Quest: Escort Kael'Thas and his Caravan
Set your two mountain giants to guard the northernmost of the supply caravans once you start. You can do this by right clicking it -- this will cause them to follow and protect it from any attackers. The rest of the units should be in a hotkey group that will lead the caravan. Set Tyrande to automatically cast searing arrows and move to the south. use fans fairly liberally with Maiev, but save starfall for good opportunities.
The path for this quest is very linear. The only deviations from the main path are to gain some gold coins and recruit mercenaries. The path will curve to the west, and you'll probably finally be attacked from the rear. Your mountain giants will absorb all of their attacks. You can choose to go back and finish the enemy off, I'd probably recommend it so they don't pile up. The blood elf priests will heal your giants for you as you go. Use taunt if the enemy attacks any of the caravans, and you'll be fine. Keep on the path and you'll come to a mercenary camp. Just west of it is an undead settlement. Use rejuvenation on your druids of the claw before you go in so their damage will be slowed, and use Tyrande's starfall when the enemies are distracted. This will cut down some of the time it takes to wipe them all out. West of the camp is the first stash of gold and wood that Kael'thas mentioned. Use it to hire some mercenaries at the camp. I recommend you get two forest troll high priests to go with Maiev so that you won't have to bother with rejuvenation any more. Save the other 200 gold for a later camp and transform your druids of the claw into bears, whereupon they can begin roar duty.
Once you hit the first resting point you can find a potion of mana in a crate to the north. Maiev will most likely need it most if you've been using the blink/fan combo. Drop one of her items and use it, then pick up the dropped item. Further to the east you'll spot a second mercenary camp. Southeast of there is the second stash, guarded by another small undead base. Again, starfall will be great here just use it after combat has started so that Tyrande isn't interrupted. You should have 800 gold. Hire two assassins and a taskmaster to join your forward group. The two mountain giants and all of your caravans should still be alive and kickin at this point.
Move north, where you'll face some crypt fiends. There is a ledge to the west where Maiev can blink that contains a crate. Drop an item then blink to that location to grab an orb of fire. Give it to Tyrande if you like, as Maiev might be better keeping the ring of protection for now. Further north there is a group of undead with a hero. Use Tyrande's starfire to clear them quickly, while the rest focus attacks to bring the battle to an end. If your forces are damaged move them near the blood elf priests to save your trolls' mana. Now the path moves back south.
You will come to another resting area. You probably haven't even lost any forces at this point if you've been doing well. Now take the path to the north where you'll be faced with a choice. Take a quick, harder path through the undead or a long safer one. I recommend you go straight through the undead base because it's not difficult.
Move along to the third and final mercenary camp. You can find the stash to the southwest. Don't use starfire on this place this time, save it for the undead bastion. Kill all the enemies and grab the gold then you can have your choice for the final hires at the mercenary camp. When you finally get to the bastion, starfire along with the extremely buffed-out Maiev should do fine taking out the base. There will be one last battle after this before you reach the crossing. A number of undead will ambush the caravan, but they come in such a way that you can use your stone giants to distract them all and wipe them out.
