Mission 6: Operation To The Moon

Mission Objectives:
  • Find a Location to Establish a Base
  • Locate and Destroy Yuri's Lunar Command Center
  • Finish off all Yuri's Remaining Forces

Wow a whooping 70,000 credits. And what a cool mission! Space! I love it on first sight, let's hope it's challenging to boot. First off, don't bother looking for resources in the 'location to establish a base' because there are none. There's a reason you start with 70,000 credits - it's what you have to work with. So you can make some huge mistakes here but let's hope we can avoid them. To the east near the American base where the eagle landed is a nice flat spot to build your base. There is a yuri base to the northwest and it's pretty close. As you can imagine since the primary infantry unit here is the cosmonaut you will want some air defenses.

Cosmonauts cost 600 a piece but are pretty powerful for the cost. I waited until my base was fully functional and had anti-air coverage from all angles - most important being the northwest corner - then I set off with a large (10+) group of cosmonauts and attacked the psychic towers along the wall of the northwestern Yuri base. Meanwhile I was producing apocalypse tanks (4) and several flak tracks (to deal with cosmonauts). I attacked the 1st Yuri base with this force. The apocalypse tanks did a fine job taking down the gatling cannons present here without any losses. That is really important in this mission! Few to no losses in the first few battles. I was already down below 40,000 (never realised how much it takes to create a base) and didn't feel I had too much to spare.

I used this notion to finish this map: keep cosmonauts only for masterminds, keep flak tracks for cosmonaut and flying disc destruction and apocalypse tanks to tear through the enemy base. Not too difficult. You may want to even switch off the apocalypse tanks for the smaller rhinos because if an apocalypse tank is mind controlled it can shoot down your cosmonauts. I did end up selling a few structures to fund this mission. Yes, I ran out of money. But it wasn't too difficult. If you run out sell more useless things like the industrial plant, radar, service depot and if you are just going to make cosmonauts/vehicles with the rest of your funds sell off the other military production building. I ended up with two apocalypse tanks in the back of the main base and had destroyed all the masterminds Yuri had. I destroyed his barracks and war factory and kept my distance from the psychic towers, focusing my attack on the bioreactors. The base power finally went offline and I finished the battle. This was a really fun one too!

"You moved so quickly that Yuri couldn't do anything but watch his lunar establishment crumble. The moon is now a part of the glorious Soviet State."
