There are three items you may be interested in found within this first area of Chapter 3. First, there's a second chance to get the Staff of Life. When you come to the first house, look to the tree to its south for the staff. In the first battle with Beast Men, one of them will drop a Skyward Spear. It's nowhere near as powerful as the Sword of the Masters, so I'd skip it. When you come to the windmill, you can grab the flaming blade Blade of Surt

Beast Men themselves are not too strong, so long as you avoid their jumping attack. Just keep moving. It's a really slow attack and will only hurt you if you're not paying attention. Use cold earth to slow them (R-R-R-R-D) followed by a shocking beam attack. When you clear this area, you'll be taken to an Airship.

Magicka: Cast explosive spells when fighting on the Airship

Other Airships will attack. Stay on your own and use ranged explosives like 3 fire 2 earth to cause area damage at range. Target the goblins with bombs, and it's a guaranteed kill. They'll likely take all their friends out with them. Vlad will leave, and a short time later your Airship will crash, leading to the next area.

Fight the Beast Men then head northeast, where you'll see a man named MacLeod. Kill him to get his Exotic Blade. It's actually more powerful than the Sword of the Masters and pierces armor. I'd take it, unless you're really fond of the Master's ranged attack. The next battle has a Beast Man wielding a Mace of the Molten Core, which is fire elemental but not as good as the Exotic Blade.

The next battle is vs several Druids, who will summon Treants and make hefty use of the Rain spell. So, lightning is off the menu. Thankfully, the Treants are weak to Fire. You may have a hard time hitting the druids with them in the way, so try to use more Area attacks so you can nip at the Druids while taking care of the Treants. They'll continually bring these guys into the fight, so it won't end until you've slain the last druid. They'll drop a Gnarled Staff which will let you summon Treants of your own, but they are stationary and won't move until an enemy comes into range. It's not all it's cracked up to be. Finishing the Druids will earn you the Thunder Bolt spell. It is cast on the target of your choice and can do about 5,000 damage. It requires Steam, so use F, Q, A, S, A then press Space to cast it. Look for Moose #4 near the Stonehenge before you move on.

Magicka: The Thunder Bolt Spell being cast on a Treant

The fight in the next area can be very tough. Don't let yourself get surrounded, and cast many area spells so you can hit the Beast Men while you run about. Once you climb the stairs, you'll face what I found to be the toughest fight yet. There are many Beast Men, and toward the end a Druid. I like to use "shotgun ice" for this fight. RQRQRQRR will produce a scatter shot that slows enemies at range. You don't have to charge it up, but if you do, it will deal respectable damage. More importantly, enemies will be slowed. Again, the Druid will use Rain so avoid using Thunder Bolt past the first stage of the fight. During the fight, you'll get yet another chance to snag a Skyward Spear as well as a Mace of the Molten Core.

Magicka: Splatter these Beast Men!

Boss Fight Strategy: Jotunn
This boss battle affords you two opportunities to get weapons. Mace of the Earth will appear on Beast Man Brute, if you go long enough into the fight. You MUST pick it up during the fight if you want it, as after the battle all items in the area will disappear and you're forced to move on. I don't think it's worth it. It's far better to focus on the M60.

Magicka: The M60 is your reward for saving all the houses from Jotunn

In order to get the M60, you'll need to kill Jotunn without any of his minions destroying a building. There are 5 total, shown under the boss's health. I used the shotgun ice spell a lot here, as it will slow Jotunn. Thunder Bolt could be helpful too. However, I prefer RQRQSRR in this fight. The slowing effect of the spell is invaluable. It's vital you stay away from Jutunn as he can kill you in just two hits. Pick on him at range with cold spells, and focus your efforts on the torch-bearing Beast Men when they spawn. When it's all over, if a building hasn't been destroyed, you'll get the M60, a machine gun!
